Set within the sacred remains of St. Katharina’s Ruins, this performance contemplates the emotional and symbolic weight of the walls we build—around ourselves, and between one another. Over the course of the evening, the artist engages in the silent, repetitive labor of constructing a circular wall around herself, brick by brick.
Anchored in spiritual reflection and a belief in our deep interconnectedness, the act becomes a living meditation on boundaries, both visible and unseen. It invites reflection on the burdens we carry: Beliefs, fears, pride, grief, protection, longing, and the many quiet separations we hold within.
Rather than preaching, the work embodies its message, through gesture, silence, effort, and invitation. Visitors are called to witness the artist’s labor: the solitude, the weight, the ritual. In doing so, they are offered a space to reflect on their own relationship to separation, and the possibility of transcendence, through presence, empathy, and love.
The performance aims to create a sacred dialogue, a collective prayer for peace, through presence and connection, rather than spectacle or slogans.
On Day Two, the audience was invited into the work. They could choose to approach, to bring a rose, and to exchange it for a brick. Slowly, the wall dissolved. Roses replaced bricks. Fragrance replaced heaviness. The wall was not simply dismantled but transformed, one gesture of love at a time. This quiet exchange became a collective prayer: in giving a rose, the audience accepted the connection; in receiving a brick, they carried a fragment of the burden I had borne.
